Titel: Basic training in processing and analysing accelerometer data in GGIR.

Abstract: Promoting healthy behaviours requires understanding individual behaviours such as physical activity (PA), sedentary behaviour (SB), and sleep, measured with accelerometers. Processing this data is however challenging. Led by experts Dr. van Hees and Dr. Migueles, this specialist course equips participants with skills to clean, analyse, and interpret PA, SB, and sleep data from accelerometers. It introduces the R package GGIR, guiding participants step-by-step for independent use. Practical sessions ensure robust research outcomes with accelerometer data.

Objectives of the course:
• Participants understand the origin of and vision behind GGIR
• Participants know the practical steps to effectively utilise GGIR, and can configure it to their own research / data
• Participants can take study protocols into account with GGIR (e.g. location device on the body)
• Participants know how to check data quality with GGIR
• Participant have skills for cleaning, analysing and accurately interpreting PA, SB and sleep data obtained from accelerometers, with GGIR
• Participants can interpret the GGIR output
• Participants know how to resolve problems or to get answers to their questions using GGIR

Targeted audience:
This specialist course is tailored for researchers at all levels (PhD, postdoc, professors) with an interest or involvement in the domains of physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep research. While it welcomes participants from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, a foundational understanding of movement sciences is beneficial. This course is designed for beginners, although basic proficiency in R programming is recommended to fully engage with the content.
